1. Where do I call for questions about my utility bill?

For utility billing questions, please call 931-728-7171 and our staff will assist you.

2. Can I pay my utility bill with a credit card?

Yes. The utility billing office accepts credit card payments. You may pay by credit card either in person, telephone, or online. If paid in person or from a telephone, a processing fee of 4.0% is charged to the cardholder. If paid online, a processing fee of 4.0% plus a vendor handling fee of $1.25 is charged to the cardholder.

3. Where can I pay my utility bill?

Utility bills may be paid at the drive-through window at the rear of the building, at our walk-in service counter, at the night depository located at the front & back entrance of City Hall, at most local banks, online, or by mail at:

4. What does it cost to turn on water service?

For home owners, there is no deposit and $35 for connect service. For renters, there is a $150 deposit and $35 for connect service.

5. How do I disconnect from my water service?

Come into Water Billing Office at 200 West Fort St. and sign disconnect form. Also, you need to give forwarding address.

6. When does my water bill come out in mail?

Monthly. You have two weeks to pay before penalties apply.

7. What should I do in case of water/sewer emergency?

During normal working hours (Monday-Friday 7:00am – 4:00pm) call 931-728-1273 and we will help you assess the situation. For afterhours assistance please call 931-728-7171 or 931-723-8662.

8. What should I do for a water pipe burst emergency?

If a water pipe bursts at your home, we recommend that you immediately turn off your main water valve. In most cases, there are two to three options: 1) a valve exist on the meter setter located inside the meter box. 2) On newer installations, a valve box is placed on the house side of the meter box which contains an isolation valve and also on newer installations; a valve is place next to the home near the foundation.

If you see conditions such as an open or damaged fire hydrant, water seeping up from underground or other signs that an underground water line may be broken, please report it to the MWSD immediately.

9. If I had a water leak, am I eligible for an adjustment?

Please fill-out the Water & Sewer Department Adjustment Request Form. Also, this form can be downloaded from the city website. Submit this form to the billing office located at 200 West Fort Street. If requests meet the Water & Sewer Adjustment Policy, we can make adjustments to your account..

10. I have a sewer backing up, what should I do?

If you have determined the blockage is located on the customer side of the line, you will need to address the issue. If you believe the issue is on the City’s side of the line; or are unsure where the blockage is located, call our Maintenance Division at 931-728-1273 (Monday-Friday 7:00am – 4:00pm).
