$480,000 in Health Initiatives Funded in the City of Manchester

Healthier Concessions

The Tennessee Department of Health released the list of Diabetes Initiative Awards today. The City of Manchester was awarded two grants for a total of $480,000.

The first grant is for $450,000 over three years and it will fund the renovation of the old Riverview Alternative school site. The renovation will include the construction of a small park and using the school building for a year round farmers market, with a greenhouse, and a summer feeding program site. The second grant will fund the formation of a free outdoor adventure club for youth in grades 5-9 and implementing a choice of healthier concession snacks and foods at school athletic events.  This project is for a two year period.  The City of Manchester is very appreciative of the funding from the Tennessee Department of Health and their support in improving the health of all Tennesseans.
